Would You Tattoo A Website On Your Body?

Would you get a tattoo of your favorite blog/site? I ask because a fan of the Digital Point forums and of Shoemoney has tattooed himself (link found via SelfMadeMinds).

I have nothing against tattoos, in fact I have one myself. But as much as I love certain sites I would not ink myself permanently with their avatars or logos. I just wouldn’t. Not if they paid me, and especially not for free.

A tumble of questions/thoughts arise from such behavior.

  • Does this act reveal a touching loyalty to the sites, or is it just a pathetic bid for attention?
  • This will help the dude get more traffic (I went to his site) but what is the traffic worth? How far would you go for attention/traffic/sales?
  • The internet is a fickle beast. What happens when DP Forums/Shoemoney change their logos? Or close down, as many websites do?
  • How many people in the world get tattoos of websites these days? If you absolutely had to get one or the world would end, what would you get? I’d probably have Google - pretty colors, and I’m a shareholder.
  • Tattoos can cost a lot to add, and more to remove. Are they art, or disfigurement? Can they be an investment if prominently placed as a kind of promotional tool?

Thoughts?

Hardly advertising, as they didn’t even include the URL!

I wouldn’t do it, though I must say I’d love a reader to get a “Gospel According To Rhys” tattoo :)

Plus, my skin is terrible for tattoos.

It might be the internet equivalent to tattooing your lover’s name on your arm - a total jinx. Not to mention, sad.

I think that is one of the worst ways to spend your money that I have heard in a long time. As you stated the Internet is a fickle beast and doing this is a cry for help on some level. I have no tats myself and have never considered getting one either, it is just not for me.

So no way for me. Also I just love those that get Chinese symbols tattooed on themselves only later to find out that their tattoo means massive bowel movement or something. Always be careful of what you place on your body as you are judged by others for it.

This is the saddest thing I have seen online in a while. I mean, I am not against tattoos at all, as I have four of them myself, but what could possibly possess you to do this? It has taken me at least 3 years to decide on the design of each of my tattoos, and I made sure to pick things that weren’t transient or too commercial, because tattoos are forever! Did this guy do it on a dare maybe? Because I can’t see what the point is at all.

There’s just something really creepy about it…

After my Pets.com fiasco, I vowed no more website tattoos!

So I’m getting a “no tattoos” vibe from everybody…

I would say so. I only read the first page of comments over on DP and it seemed the overal reaction was ‘wow, cool!’ That scares me. I do business with these people!

    I wont!

C’mon people, where’s your commitment to your favorite sites?
