My First AdSense Check

Well hallelujah and break out the champagne, my first-ever Google AdSense check has arrived in the mail! I’d set up direct wiring, but never mind, better late than never. The check is for $144. I could photograph myself holding it like Shoemoney did, but his check was worth a bit more.

But before you get all worked up and think the $144 is one month’s Minx earnings, think again. The $144 has been slowly accruing since 2004, when I started my first blog (a travel blog about living in Berlin) and haphazardly added some of the world’s first AdSense ads. My profits grew slowly, my blogs changed, and here we are now at the grand total of $144 dated to the end of June 2007.

So, $144. Should I invest it? Should I start a new business? Should I buy a one-way bus ticket to a new life? No, it’s going towards my overdraft.

Thank you, Google.

the first check tends to take awhile. but now the real money will start rolling in! see you in the caymans! or Dennys. whatever’s cool. I’m not picky.

Haha yes, I should splurge on some takeout! :)
Hopefully I won’t have to wait until 2010 for the next check.

  3. Kirsty Says:

Nice work, feels good eh? Three years is a bit of a wait but I think if you keep working really hard you’ll be able to get the next one in under 2 years. Keep the dream alive and pretty soon you’ll be up to one a year! ;-)

The correct way, I believe, to post adsense earning photos is stupidly hungover, see this:

Congratulations! If you don’t need the money, I say invest it in domain names - if you don’t know anything about domain names, my blog (above) has got a whole load of info. I’ve bought quite a few and hopefully they will make me some money one day !

    Grats Minx!

I can’t pass up the opportunity to advise you to invest in a block on BloggingsMostWanted.com! It just may be the best investment you’ll EVER make! hehe..

I think you should take a pic holding it next to Shoemoneys or something…would be funny!

    Keep up the good work!

  10. richminx Says:

    Ryan, thanks.

I knew you’d say that (about BloggingsMostWanted). :) You’re too late - I have already spent the money. I’ll say what on in the next post, but you inspired it!

  11. richminx Says:

Vic, investing in domain names is a great idea. I’ll check out your site.

Leon, I don’t live in Berlin now, but I used to, and it’s still one of my favorite cities in the world. Gruesse von Neuseeland!

Roberta, when’s yours coming? Sooner than mine, I hope!

    Chris, hehe sorry! :)

Rhys: Two months for the next one is pretty good. I think mine will be three - still, better than waiting years. I might take a pic in case the second one never comes!

Kirsty: That’s right, it’s all about patience! A watched check never boils.

  12. Travis Says:

It is a good feeling isn’t it. Just wait till some more money starts coming in - the feeling gets even better.

  19. NothingMan Says:

Congrats. I haven’t seen an Adsense Check yet, but I have gotten some from Pricegrabber and a few others for a good chunk of change. Ya know what sucks though… When I make money, I turn right around and pump it right back into advertising. When I get my adsense check, I can almost guarantee you it’s going right into Adwords. I did buy a few xbox games with one check, but that’s about it. Spend wisely :)

  20. richminx Says:

NothingMan, that’s a good point - a lot of site owners simply channel their AdSense earnings back into AdWords. Does it more or less even out for you?

  21. NothingMan Says:

For my new blog, I’m in the whole exactly 15$ from a Shamus, I mean Shameless ploy for self-advertising on blogginsmostwanted :-)

In the past though, I never got an Adsense check (still trying) but what I did make, I basically just paid for advertising and hosting costs. So essentially, I AM at about net zero.

However, I do have a few things (at least one) up my sleeve, so now I’m planning on pumping every dollar I make directly into advertizing for that site with adwords. Hopefully that one will be profitable.

  22. Daniel Ted Says:

I’m dreaming of receiving one too. It will surely be very cool.
