Lolcats 2: The Dark Side

Lolcat death (pic from mentalfloss.com)I know you look forward to my Lolcat posts and view them as a tool to gain more readers, traffic, money and respect, as well as the opportunity to read an insightful account of the latest web trend. You’re welcome. Here’s another.

We’ve already covered what a Lolcat is and why they are popular: cute, funny, silly and with infinite posing and captioning possibilities.

A new, darker trend recently though has been Lolcats of Death.

How can something so cute become so sinister? Because of a CNN article about Oscar. Oscar the cat lives in a nursing home and began to attract media attention when he seemed able to predict the imminent deaths of residents by sitting by them as they died. Of course, the article got Dugg (“I can has tombstone?”) and Diggers accused poor furry Oscar of being an evil cat that actually contributed to the deaths by some sinister cat osmosis trick thing.

Oscar’s new ‘cat of death’ status has inspired a few Lolcats of Death pictures. Because, y’know, when cats stare they can look a little sinister sometimes.

Opportunities

Lolcats of Death has party fulfilled my Lolcat spinoffs prediction of Nolcats (unfunny Lolcats) except that they are still funny. What will be next? Who noes.
