You’re So Far Away From Me: Does Location Matter?
Please excuse the slight erratic-ness of posting times while I get my head around the new time difference. I am now 17 hours ahead of New Yorkers. I am also jetlagged so wake up at 4am. I appear upside-down to Europeans. All AdSense ads I see are now displaying New Zealand ads thanks to cunning geotargeting. It’s madness down the rabbit hole.
Still, I am able to overcome these mountainous obstacles and keep blogging, even while upside-down.
But I wonder: will my physical distance affect my mostly US-based readership? I love my five subscribers; I would hate to lose them over something so small as a 7000-mile gap and the Pacific Ocean.
I take heart that ProBlogger Darren Rowse lives in Australia, which is also not in America, and he has at least as many subscribers as me, if not more. At the NY ProBlogger Meetup I remember asking him how he managed the time difference and he said he timestamped his posts. Genius!
But pressing questions remain.
- How many Big Bloggers live outside the US?
- Does nationality matter?
- When is the best time to publish a post?
- Will Harry Potter survive, or will Voldemort?
