Video Blogging: Would You Try It?
I have a new Mac. I’m a Mac! Actually I’d rather be the PC character because he’s cooler but I like my Mac. It’s white and has handy things like a webcam.
So far I’ve used my webcam for silly Skype conversations and checking my hair and that’s it, but I’ve been thinking about doing a video blog post for the hell of it.
Why video blogging?
- Well, it’s good if you have an personal advice blog like Ask Dan and Jennifer who are so brave with their sex-and-relationship frankness (here is their answer to your swinging vs. polyamory question). I don’t have an advice blog though.
- It would be good for illustrating how-to posts for people who prefer visuals to text instructions.
- Readers seemed to like it when Gospel Rhys had a go.
- It is a little bit more personal than an avatar. Well, it’s a lot more personal: you see the blogger’s mannerisms, hear their voice, their intonation… it’s all quite revealing, actually.
- Get your message across via a performance vs. text if you are a better speaker than writer, and have a knack with film and editing. Add effects, add music.
Why not video blogging?
- Because you can risk looking like a gimp. Also, I tend to look awfully pale. Stage makeup required?
- Some animation is required (energy, not cartoons). Challenging for introverts.
- The simplest video innocently recorded in your garage can come back to haunt you again and again. And that’s not even mentioning the Paris Hilton sex tape.
- There are bound to be critical reviews and rotten tomatoes. “Your butt looks big!…Call that a love scene?” etc.
So have you tried video blogging, or would you? How about… I’ll do it if you will!
