The Velvet Rope At Club RSS

People who read blogs on a regular basis are likely to use an RSS Reader to organize their subscriptions and get updates. I use Google Reader because, unlike Bloglines which I used for years, I can open articles by clicking them on my homepage (which is also Google Homepage…) without the page closing, and they don’t delete articles from the feed which I’ve already read.

I imagine RSS lists being a bit like Studio 54, the exclusive New York club from the late ’70s. There is a velvet rope to pass, there is a very long queue of punters hoping to get in, and there is a large bouncer who opens the rope to a select few. If they don’t add to the vibe inside, they get kicked back out on the street.

So who made it into your RSS Reader and how do you choose who’s in or out of your Club RSS?

I know there must a thousand blogs out there I’d love, but I try and keep my feed list quite small because I spend a lot of time closely reading those I already have, leaving the odd comment and clicking on articles they recommend. I really don’t know how someone manages to keep track of hundreds of sites.

These are some cool people I have recently added to my feed reader:

Bloggrrl - I can’t remember how I came across it but her blog tips are good and her posts are raunchy (as all good posts should be). You never know what will happen next, which is why I signed up.

Lifehack.org - I don’t think Lifehack needs the link love but his daily tips for making life better brighten up my day. Do I implement them? I’m probably too lazy. But it’s the thought that counts.

MsDanielle - Ms Danielle is a relative newbie like me. She works with Google AdWords, like me. Her writing is great and it looks like her blog’s doing really well. Check it out.

Roberta Ferguson - Roberta has an original take on blogging (god, I sound like I’m writing a school report!). She’s started a few ‘buzzes’ including the Rockin’ Girl Blogger craze sweeping the virtual world. Do I qualify? Well, I’m a girl and I’ve dated some bass guitarists ;) Pick me, Roberta!

And whose RSS Club am I in? Well, the number of people subscribing to the Rich Minx feed is rising (thank goodness) although it took me a while to set up Feedburner and promote it (the huge orange lozenge on the left) and so it’s hard to know how many people signed up before that. But my stats show quite a few visit me via a feed. Hello feed readers! Did I mention how awesome you are?

If you enjoyed this post, make sure you subscribe to my RSS feed!

This is a really great analogy, and I was pleasantly surprised to see my name! Thanks. :-)

I just finished weeding a bunch of stuff out of my reader. There is a point when there are just not enough hours in the day…

Hey, my anti spam word was “rich” how awesome!

If you want to consolidate your RSS subscriber counts, you can grab the Feedburner Plugin and it will automatically transfer all subscibers to Feedburner so they will show in your counts.

    Hi Ninja,

I customized those anti-spam words when I installed the plugin. I think another is ‘minx’. So imaginative. :)

Thanks for the plugin tip. Will do right now!
