I Am Jack’s MyBlogLog
What in the name of blogging is MyBlogLog?
MyBlogLog is a social networking community for bloggers. You create a profile, add your site(s) which then have their own communities, add the special widget to your site’s sidebar and then hey presto, you’re in!
Why would I want to do that?
Because most bloggers do it, and you don’t want to be left out, do you?
- It helps you keep track of who is visiting your site, and because of the avatars you can often put faces to the names.
- You can see who has joined your site’s community and added you as a contact.
- Your profile and community may well attract new visitors.
- You can join other blog communities and find contacts who run similar sites.
- You can email/spam people who have joined your community with site updates, any competitions you have running etc.
What are the low points of MyBlogLog?
- More and more people are using graphics as their avatars, from Picachu to lettering. Some people’s avatars look like Nick Nolte’s mugshot. And those hot chick avatars? Mirage.
- More and more people are signing up with mysterious names like ‘Oog’ and ‘Site Directory’.
- Most of the comments left on your profile/community page say: “Check out my blog!”
- Sometimes you want to visit a blog anonymously, but BAM! There you are in their MyBlogLog widget.
Rich Minx’s MyBlogLog Profile Check:
- MyBlogLog persona: Slightly slutty. I have joined 52 communities so far.
- Profile Views (since May): 1261. I’m famous!
- Contacts: 84. Contacts recognized: 20.
- Rich Minx community: 63 members.
- Community activity: Lackluster. It’s more of a sewing circle.
Whose mug is it anyway

Yeah, I just hate how you can’t anonymously stalk people now! But, I’ve met so many cool folks through it that my sneakiness being curtailed is worth it. And thanks for the mention!
July 17th, 2007 at 1:55 pmI love MyBlogLog. It sends me alot of traffic. (Alot for me.) It is a two edged sword though. I like being able to check out the people visiting the site, but can’t do it annonimously. I just do it and hope they have enough traffic that I blend back into the croud
July 17th, 2007 at 5:36 pmAre you suggesting that Jessica Alba doesn’t really read my blog?
July 17th, 2007 at 6:36 pmBloggrrl, you are welcome!
“Ad Tracker”: True, if someone has low traffic you could be stuck on the widget for days/weeks/longer!
DrToast: Haha, no, Jessica Alba would be the exception
July 17th, 2007 at 6:39 pmDr. Toast, It’s time to take tour meds. Jessica and all of her bikini clad friends hang out at my place and pester me to be their contact buddy.
July 17th, 2007 at 7:00 pmI’m a member of MyBlogLog, but I kind of ignore it. However, if I notice a new visitor, I do go to their site….but I don’t have an avatar….maybe I should pose in a bikini…at least I could try to compete with Jessica Alba for traffic….
July 18th, 2007 at 8:52 amIt works though. I found this blog because of your visit to TV’s Worst Ads blog.
Anyone who uses Fight Club for post title inspiration deserves being added to my RSS reader!
July 18th, 2007 at 10:21 amSaving Diva: Posing in a bikini would help traffic I’m sure… you might have to impose a few restraining orders though!
Baby Matthew (so articulate already!): Yes, I tend to click on people’s avatars to see who they are.
Hooray, I was hoping someone would notice the random Fight Club reference!
July 18th, 2007 at 10:37 amOh, I got the Fight Club reference. However, when faced with the option of discussing Bitch Tits Bob or Jessica Alba, I choose the latter.
Oh, and my anti-spam word: donate. Very subtle!
July 18th, 2007 at 10:52 amEveryone wants to talk about Jessica Alba… maybe I should just keep typing her name for the SEO benefits.
Heehee, anti spam words are all part of my psychological mind trickery
July 18th, 2007 at 11:50 amOk, I’ll do my bit for your SEO by mentioning Jessica Alba
July 18th, 2007 at 1:06 pmHaving done that I guess I’ll have to go and find out who she is. I assume it’s a she?
Carl, you clearly aren’t an avid reader of People magazine. Clever man.
July 18th, 2007 at 1:20 pmi am jack’s enormous online ego…
July 19th, 2007 at 1:48 amMy blog has 73 members, I didn’t notice that until this post! Thanks! I must be super slutty- I have 82 communities- most of those are ‘auto added’ after I visit a few times.

Eve: I forgot to mention that auto-add function for communities. It’s quite handy.
