I Was A ProBlogger Meetup Social Networking Bunny

Last night was ProBlogger’s New York get-together for bloggers who were either in NY or willing to make it there by 7pm on June 9. As already mentioned, ProBlogger is run by Darren Rowse who is kind of like an Obi-Wan Kenobi or Mr Miyagi figure for anyone looking to learn more about creating and growing a successful blog. Thanks Darren!

When I first arrived Darren was the only person I ‘knew’ but it was really cool meeting everyone in such a laid-back atmosphere and hearing about their different projects/jobs. Being the ultimate savvy networkers, we all had business cards and I have a small mountain of them in front of me now. First prize goes to the plastic one with the mints inside.

Now, let’s check out everyone’s sites…

Chris Conley runs Start Up Or Bust, a new site that will document his transition from ‘corporate drone to full time web entrepreneur’. Check it out. Nice to meet you, Chris, and I’ve added your site to my RSS reader! I like personal journey blogs.

Alex Geana, a blogger for hire. He’s written for the Huffington Post, even. Respect. We had a nice long (slightly blurry) chat about New York.

John Keegan who runs a blog hosting company called BlogHarbor.com. The job title on his business card is ‘lighthouse keeper’.

Lara Kulpa runs a marketing company called Anubis Marketing and helped organize the ProBlogger meetup.

Shai Coggins and Aaron Brazell who is a ‘technology architect’ (cool title) at B5 Media. They have a network of blogs.

Mike Levin who runs HitTail.com, an application which can tell you in real time which keywords people are using to access your site. Looks interesting.

Peter Glyman of Geezeo.com, a company which creates personal finance applications and the site has a growing community.

Sharon Scherer, Marketing Manager at Chitika who were sponsoring the evening. Chitika is a way for bloggers to make money by running product ads on their blogs and Darren recommends them so I might give it a try at some point. Although I have reached two figures a week for my AdSense stats…

Rachel Clarke who writes Behind the Buzz, a B5 Media blog about digital marketing.

I found a card in my pocket that said only: markus941. I googled it and found this Web 2.0 blog.

Ari Shohat who runs Few Guys From Work. I like the writing on this one. Into my feed it goes.

Update: Darren’s done a post of his own with links to some of the night’s recaps and pics. Here’s a pic of me (in the blue) making new friends.

Minxy… so GLAD you found me at the meetup! I still feel like a dolt about the stupid dresswear comment, but I’m glad you came and had fun!

Was great to meet you and the others who were there - sorry I had to run out a bit early but I needed to make my train! :)

I’m recouperating from the 3 day jaunt to the city today… but I should have some photos posted soon, and I know that Darren has some (because I took them!) so keep your eyes peeled for that too.

    Thanks again for coming! :)

  2. Aaron Brazell Says:

FABULOUS meeting you. My title is Director of Technology but I was trying to get rid of my old cards. :)

  3. Lara Kulpa Says:

I happen to prefer Aaron’s old title myself.

    Hey!

Sounds like a fun time! Too bad I couldn’t make it…New York isn’t exactly a hop, a skip, or a jump from me!

How was Darren in real life? Seems like a pretty cool guy…
