All Things In Moderation

“Cookies are a sometimes food.” - Cookie Monster, after learning about the growing US child obesity problem.
“Moderation is a fatal thing. Nothing succeeds like excess.” - Oscar Wilde, in response to the above.

Who is right? One of the greatest wits of our time, or Oscar Wilde? (Couldn’t resist.)

We are told to do things in moderation. Drink in moderation. Shop for Gucci in moderation. Are we supposed to make money in moderation as well, will too much money make us unhappy? Yes, says AskMen.com, who confirm that more money = more problems.

I don’t use the internet in moderation, either. I jump on it first thing in the morning and give it a kiss goodnight (not literally…) just before I shut myself down for the day.

Is this unhealthy? Probably. But maybe that’s how it should be. I don’t want to do everything in moderation.

Look at your role models. Did they do things in moderation to become who they are/were? Maybe moderation is not just the death of excess, it’s the death of anything interesting.

Passion vs. moderation. Which would you choose?

For me, passion wins every time.

My Mum always taught me moderation in all things but you know, I think you are right. Moderation in most things, most of the time would be sensible but if you can’t enjoy excess now and again then life could be very dull.
    Well done Richminx.
