Money and Credit Reviewed
(Note: I’ve been getting a lot of requests for these free reviews so I’m going to start imposing a small charge - $20 - from now on, to feed myself and also to stop this site becoming a ‘reviews’ site. Hey, it’s capitalism!)
Update to the post below: Colonel Cash has given his blog a makeover since the review below and it now looks a million times better! Hard to believe it’s even the same site. Great job, Colonel Cash!
Who? The recently-born Money and Credit blog is run by ‘Colonel Cash’ who has experience with banking, lending and collecting money and wishes to share what he’s learned about finance.
Site Design: I’m sorry to start with the design because it’s fricking terrible. Sorry, Colonel Cash, but I’m honest! The page is too wide, there’s text and images floating all over the place and there is a lot of white space sitting around. It looks like somebody sneezed and the site contents got scattered! I do like the coin header though.
Site Layout: The welcome message is halfway down the page in the right sidebar. Surely this is more important than the gross national debt calculator at the top? Ditto the list of post categories buried down. And too much scrolling is required to get to the content. For some reason only three posts are visible on the homepage.
Content: Colonel Cash covers some original topics: don’t give money away to your family unless you must (the post is memorably entitled ‘Family Screwing‘), are teens overly optimistic about their future earning potential? and Debt ratios: are they really that important? There are some useful site links included in the sidebar and in the posts, although the posts themselves are a little short and a spell-checker wouldn’t go astray (oh, I’m so mean!).
Interaction: MyBlogLog is featured. Comments are enabled but don’t seem to get a reply. I couldn’t find an ‘About’ area for information on who Colonel Cash is, or an avatar. Is he related to Colonel Sanders?
Monetization: Google ads top and side and a donate button. A donate button… must borrow that idea. Someone has already promised me a donut.
Finale: It’s a new site, so I don’t want to dig my claws in too much but I think Colonel Cash needs to get the broom out and do a bit of tidying. That said, it’s refreshing to see someone with a real background in money out to help others and he covers topics with a unique perspective and adds useful links to his blog. Don’t hate me, Colonel Cash, you did ask for a review!
