Ladies: We Can Be Cheap and Beautiful
This being a female-focused blog, I thought I’d touch on a topic we’re all familiar with: maintenance. That’s of ourselves, not the house or car.
Now, I know that technically this isn’t essential spending; we need food and a roof over our heads, not a French manicure. But realistically there’s an enormous amount of pressure put on women to look a certain way. You can be defiant to a point, I know, but most of us make some effort: hair colour, pedicure, waxing, styling. Add to that some makeup, nice clothes. It gets expensive fast.
Below is my list of cost-saving things I do when it comes to maintenance. I’d love to hear yours!
Bonus Times: I make the most of those Bonus Times when my chosen brand has a bonus makeup giveaway, and get member discounts.
Buy Online: It’s often cheaper. I also find reading customer feedback online helps me make fewer mistakes when it comes to buying stuff.
Buy in Bulk: For obvious reasons.
Buy Overseas: If you’re travelling somewhere cheaper it can be a good time to stock up on clothes (plus you’ll look different to everyone back home). The best place I’ve found so far is Vietnam: custom tailored items at a fraction of the normal price.
Baby Oil: I use Baby Oil as a moisturiser. It’s cheap, effective and smells nice.
Samples: Can save you money and last a while.
Simplify: Do I really need three types of hair gel and face cream?
Don’t Believe the Hype: Ads are Photoshopped. ‘Nuff said.

I agree with Bonus Times…and buying online can be extremely great when coupled with online shopping codes (Fatwallet.com and slickdeals.net). Buying in bulk is the worst idea I could possibly allow into my head. I will end up with 30 tubes of mascara that I am tired of and 600 rolls of toilet paper…oh, and I love the huge boxes of microwave eggrolls (not so kind to my waistline)

May 21st, 2007 at 10:46 amYou might want to look into olive oil or especially jojoba oil instead of baby oil for your skin. Olive oil also has vitamin E which is an antioxidant that helps prevent aging and jojoba is most like your skins own oils so it’s very friendly.
I personally prefer olive oil because in addition to making your skin beautiful it makes such a great appetizer when you mix in various herbs and put it on bread!
