Craigslist: My New Best Friend

Last night I was lucky enough to see Air. I say lucky because not only was it a brilliant concert at Madison Square Theatre, I had a seat in one of the first rows thanks to craigslist.

Craigslist was a revelation when I came to the States; I’d heard of it before, but now it’s an essential resource that I check every day. It has job listings, cheap tickets, last-minute tickets to sold-out shows (like Air was), friend listings if you’re lonely, and free stuff. A quick glance at the ‘free’ section today in Manhattan reveals a ping-pong table, a haircut (if you’re brave enough to throw yourself on the mercy of a trainee hairdresser), furniture and kittens. Hard to turn down the kittens.

You might notice an absence of AdSense ads on craigslist. That’s because the site makes its revenue from real estate and job listings. It’s free to post any other kind. And while its appearance won’t be winning any web design awards, it works.

What are the ‘resource’ sites you recommend?
