Pricey Works of Art
Today I wandered around one of the world’s largest art museums. It was so huge I got tired and couldn’t possibly see all of it, but I wandered past quite a few Monets, Vermeers, Rodins and Van Goghs before my legs started aching.
I got to thinking about art as investment. Some bright sparks are particularly good at detecting the Next Big Thing and whipping out their cheque books (do people still do that?) to nab a future Picasso. I own a couple of paintings by an up-and-coming local artist and the value of them is undoubtedly increasing but they won’t make me rich. And I couldn’t imagine selling them.
I tend to gravitate towards the pretty and the cute and the traditional, anyway. Splattery Jackson Pollocks and big red squares full of meaning don’t really float my boat.
